What is the RECO Method?

Most high-stakes negotiations don't fail because of a lack of options. They fail because the parties never fully confront what happens if they don't reach agreement. Risk is minimized, downside is ignored, and the focus stays fixed on what might be won — until the cost of the fight exceeds the value of what anyone was fighting for.

The RECO Method — Realistic Exposure to a Catastrophic Outcome — changes that. Developed by attorney and mediator Eric Boughman from more than two decades of legal practice and over 200 mediations, it is a strategic framework for identifying the realistic worst-case outcome of a conflict and bringing it into focus while there is still room to maneuver. Not as a threat. As clarity. When parties honestly confront what continued conflict will cost them, resolution becomes possible — and often, inevitable.

About the Book - Beyond Tactics: A Negotiator's Strategy for High-Stakes Deals, Disputes, and Decisions

Most negotiation books teach tactics. Beyond Tactics teaches strategy — specifically, the strategy of making the cost of continued conflict impossible to ignore.

Drawing on more than two decades of legal practice and over 200 mediations, attorney and mediator Eric Boughman introduces the RECO Method: a structured framework for identifying the realistic worst-case outcome of any dispute or negotiation and bringing it into focus while there is still room to maneuver.

The result is a book built for the situations where tactics aren't enough — high-stakes deals, business disputes, partnership breakdowns, and decisions where getting it wrong isn't an option. Real cases. Real consequences. A framework you can use immediately.

Eric Boughman

Attorney | Mediator | Author of Beyond Tactics

Eric Boughman has spent more than two decades at the intersection of deals, disputes, and high-stakes decision-making — as a business lawyer, litigator, and mediator. He is a founding partner of ForsterBoughman, a business and tax law boutique in Central Florida, and a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator who has conducted nearly 200 mediations across healthcare, technology, partnership, and complex commercial disputes.

Out of that practice grew the RECO Method — a framework for identifying the realistic worst-case outcome of any conflict and bringing it into focus while there is still room to maneuver. Beyond Tactics is where he teaches it. Eric works with business owners, executives, and professionals who face high-stakes negotiations, disputes, and decisions regularly — and who can't afford to get them wrong.
